STELLAR பரிணாமம் (EVOLUTION)
I am using a fusion of South Indian classical (Carnatic) music, Western classical compositions and percussion/rhythm sequences to personify the genesis, life and destruction of a massive star. Each period of a massive star has human-like qualities associated with it. According to me, associating a certain emotion with a certain stage can lead to a more profound understanding of the science that governs each stage. I believe that using music to express these emotions best serves the purpose as music breaks barriers and is a universal language.
All the cosmos is a stage,
And all the stars and galaxies merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances,
And a massive star in his time plays many parts,
His acts being six ages. At first the nebula,
Collapsing and exploding in the cloud’s gas and dust,
And then, the budding protostar, with his self-gravity
And ample gaseous hydrogen, spinning like top
Rapidly to ignite. And then, the main sequence star,
Illuminating the galaxy for aeons, he transcends
Space and time to shine bright. Then, a red supergiant,
Lower in temperature, in a sudden, and quick expansion,
Seeking the M spectral type
Even in its instability;
And so he plays his part. The fifth age shifts
Into the strong and intense supernova,
With hydrogen exhausted and power no more, he explodes,
His remains scattered across the universe,
For his lively days perish, and his strong radiant light
Turning toward sombre darkness, shadow and shade in his glow.
Last scene of all, that ends this strange eventful history,
Is absolute obscurity and mere oblivion,
Sans light, Sans escape,
sans information, sans everything.
In order to bring about the science of the entire process more explicitly, the track will accompany a rendition of my first Creative Fragment, which was an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Seven Ages of Man, seen above. The poem I wrote depicted the six stages of a massive star, with just one or two lines describing each stage.
With my project, I am bringing the poem to life. Each song/combination of songs personifies a particular stage.
